2023 Ford F-150 Lightning

The F-150 Lightning is an all-electric pickup truck from Ford. The Lightning looks very similar to the gas-powered F-150, but the electric motor provides instant torque as soon as you press on the accelerator. It has two battery options, with a long-range version for extra horsepower and range, and this truck has impressive towing capabilities. The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has the same features as the 2022 model. Take a look at some of the details.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

The entry-level Pro has 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a 5.5-foot bed, and black running boards. The XLT adds to this with adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights, a Class IV trailer hitch, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Stepping up to the Lariat gets you LED lighting in the bed, power-folding side mirrors, and a power-sliding rear window. Choose the Platinum for 22-inch wheels.

Engine (Power)

Every 2023 Lightning has two electric motors. These, combined with the standard range battery, get you 452 horsepower. If you opt for the extended-range battery, the horsepower jumps to 580, and it will generate 775 pound-feet of torque. The standard battery will get up to 240 miles of range, while the extended battery will get you up to 300 miles.

Performance

The electric motors provide instant torque and impressive acceleration. The Lightning will jump from zero to 60 mph in just four seconds and can run the quarter mile in just 12.7 seconds. This F-150 has excellent road and driving manners. The weight of the battery lowers the center of gravity, making it stay well-connected to the road around corners. When equipped with the tow package and extended battery, it can tow up to 10,000 pounds. If you have the standard range battery, it can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

Interior

The Lightning's cabin is very similar to the gas-powered F-150s. It has room for up to six people, with vinyl upholstery in the entry-level model and cloth and leather in the higher trims. The Lightning offers Max Recline seats that fold almost flat, so you can relax while you charge, and it also offers ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable steering wheel, and a huge front frunk that can hold up to 400 pounds of gear. Technology starts with a huge 12-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and eight 120-volt household-style power outlets. Ford's Pro Power Onboard is available. It upgrades the power outlets to provide more electricity, so you can use it to power tools and appliances, and the Lariat upgrades the touchscreen to a 15.5-inch display.

Safety Features

Every Ford Lightning has a full suite of driver safety aids. These include a forward collision warning system, pedestrian detection, automatic braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and rear automatic braking. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard, along with rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. The XLT offers adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist as an option, and these come standard with the rest of the lineup.
